The
Church
The 18th century chapel at Capel-Y-Ffin, a tiny hamlet hidden away in a remote valley.
It is part of the parish of Llanigon.
St.
Mary's church, encircled by ancient yews, is a chapel of ease to
Llanigon. It is one of the smallest in the country, only 8 meters
by 4 meters inside. It was built in 1762 replacing an earlier
chapel, and the south porch was added in 1817.
Francis Kilvert
used to preach here.
The Galleries
There
are two tiny galleries, on the west and north walls, in an equally
small chapel:
The
small oblong interior has a gallery along the west and south
walls. Furnishings include an octagonal pulpit of 1780, five
settles - one dated 1783 and a medieval font.
As it happens, there is a non-conformist chapel, of later date and similar tiny size, just across the stream from this.
It also has both West and North galleries.
