The Baptist Meeting House
at Dalwood, near Axminster, is run by the National Trust, details of which
can be found at: http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-loughwoodmeetinghouse/ |

Around 1653 the Baptist congregation of the
nearby village of Kilmington constructed this simple building dug into the
hillside. They attended services here at the risk of imprisonment or
transportation. The interior was fitted in the early 18th century,
and has been maintained as closely as possible to the original, the
picture below shows the musicians gallery, where it is understood some of
the original music stands are still to be found. |

The
pulpit, and, below, the harmonium which ousted the original musicians and
instrumentalists from the gallery. |
